College Committees
Curriculum and Assessment Committee
Duties: Review and make recommendations to the dean on 1) new undergraduate and graduate courses; 2) new undergraduate and graduate programs; 3) changes in departmental major and minor programs; 4) studies and policies relevant to general education requirements; 5) matters relating to grading and academic standards. The chair of this committee serves on the Academic Planning and Assessment Committee.
Composition: Seven (7) members, one elected from each department, to serve three-year staggered terms, plus a chair appointed by the dean from the committee membership. Appointments should adhere to the following restrictions:
1) One member from each department
2) No more than two department chairs
3) A chair appointed by the dean from the committee membership for a two-year term.

Research Committee
Duties: Review faculty research proposals to be funded by the university and make recommendations to the University Research Council. Also, the chair of this committee serves on the University Research Council.
Composition: Seven (7) members, one elected from each department, to serve three-year staggered terms. Appointments should adhere to the following restrictions:
1) One member from each department
2) No more than two department chairs
3) A chair appointed by the dean from the committee membership for a two-year term

Promotion and Tenure Committee
Duties: Receive and evaluate each application for promotion and previous recommendations and make recommendations to the dean. The duties and responsibilities of this committee are further outlined in the May 2006 edition of the UCA Faculty Handbook, page 23.
Composition: Seven (7) members elected to three-year terms; one alternate
1) Only regular, full-time tenured faculty
2 ) One member from each department elected by the faculty of that department. Each department will also elect an alternate. The alternate will serve should a committee member have a conflict of interest that induces a recusal, be on leave, or apply for promotion
3) No department chairs
4) Chair selected from the committee membership by the dean

College of Liberal Arts EDGE Committee
This committee is a standing committee that provides direction and support for the college’s Educating for Global Engagement (EDGE) plan.
Duties: Advises the dean on 1) new directions for the EDGE plan; 2) definite ways to expand and develop the EDGE plan; 3) any other matters relating to the development and assessment of the EDGE plan.
Composition: Seven (7) members, one elected from each department, to serve three-year staggered terms. The chair of this committee is the associate dean of the College of Liberal Arts. Appointments should adhere to the following restrictions:
1 ) One member from each CLA department
2 ) No department chairs

Interdisciplinary Liberal Studies (ILS) Degree Committee
This committee is a standing committee of faculty committed to value of interdisciplinary liberal studies. Although the degree is administrated by the College of Liberal Arts, the committee includes a member from the College of Fine Arts and Communication and from the Honors College.
Duties: Review and make recommendations to the dean on 1) new courses proposed that may function as foundation ILS courses in the program; 2) new interdisciplinary minors proposed that may function as concentrations for the program; 3) any overall changes in the program’s curricular structure; 4) reviewing and approving student applications for admission into the program; 5) matters relating to assessment of the program.
Composition: Nine (9) members, one elected from each department in the College of Liberal Arts, to serve three-year staggered terms. The dean of the College of Fine Arts and Communication appoints a member from that college, and the director of the Honors College appoints a member from that college. The chair of this committee (non-voting) is the associate dean of the College of the College of Liberal Arts. Appointments should adhere to the following restrictions:
1) One member from each CLA department
2) No department chairs
