United Nations Day luncheon planned

Ambassador Pierre-Richard Prosper, former U.S. ambassador-at-large for war crimes issues, U.S. Department of State will give the keynote address at the United Nations Day luncheon at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 27 in the Brewer-Hegeman Conference Center.
Faculty, staff, and students invited to participate. Please RSVP to Dr. Mark Mullenbach at markm@uca.edu by Monday, Oct. 23rd.

Health career fair planned

UCA Career Services/Cooperative Education and the Student Government Association will host a Health Career Fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 25, in the Student Center Ballroom.
Businesses will be interviewing for health positions in nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech-language pathology, kinesiology, family and consumer sciences.

UCA Theatre to present award-winning play

UCA Theatre will present the award-winning play, Stop Kiss, by Diana Son, on Oct. 26, 27 and Nov. 1, 2, 3 at 7:30 p.m. on Centre Stage of the Snow Fine Arts Center.
The play tells the story of two women who form an awkward friendship which suddenly, and unexpectedly, swerves in another direction. The script explores society?s views on diversity, intolerance and acceptance in a moving portrayal of friendship and love. Stop Kiss won the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding New York Production and Ms. Son was awarded a Berilla Kerr Award for Playwriting.

Two receive McLauchlin Graduate Scholarships

Courtney Powell and Michael Schoultz have been named recipients of the Robert W. McLauchlin Graduate Scholarship for the fall semester at the University of Central Arkansas. Announcement of their selection came at a recent ceremony held in Wingo Hall on the campus.

Scholarship available for native speakers of French

This spring, the Department of World Languages, Literatures, and Cultures will offer a Presidential Scholarship to a native speaker of French.
All native French speakers on campus are invited to apply to work in the language lab and departmental office.
Applicants must be full-time students and will be expected to work 15 hours per week. Deadline for applications is October 27, 2006.
Call 450-3168 or go by Irby Hall, Room 207 for more information and an application. Also applications is available online at www.uca.edu/divisions/academic/lingua/Lab/lab.htm.

Ballet Folklorico Brings Mexico?s Cultural Dances to UCA Stage

Although she died in 2000, Ballet Folklorico?s founding artistic director Amalia Hernandez continued to research Mexico?s many native cultures and create new folkloric dances right up until her death. She left the company in the competent hands of her daughter, Norma Lopez Hernandez, who, along with her son, has kept a full company in residence at the Palacios de Bellas Artes in Mexico City, with a 58-member company performing annually on tours to the United States, Europe, Asia, and Latin America.
Ballet Folklorico de Mexico de Amalia Hernandez brings its full company to Conway with two performances on the stage of Donald W. Reynolds Performance Hall at UCA on Thursday and Friday, October 12 & 13, at 7:30 pm. It is the second show on the 2006-2007 UCA Public Appearances Season.

French folk singer Eric Vincent to perform at UCA

French folk singer Eric Vincent will present two concerts at UCA during his 2006 tour. The performances will be at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m., Oct. 26, in Reynolds Performance Hall.
The concerts are free and opent to the public. No tickets required. High school and university French teachers are invited to bring their students. Parking for buses is available.
Teachers wishing to bring a group of students are asked to contact Dr. Phillip Bailey at 501-450-5645 or PhillipB@uca.edu.
