RN-to-BSN or RN-BSN/MSN Admission Criteria

  • Have a current unencumbered Arkansas RN license.

  • Meet the following GPA and course prerequisite requirements:
    • RN-to-BSN
      • Minimum GPA of 2.5.
      • Completion of all specified required non-nursing courses with a GPA of 2.5 or above (53 hours) and completion of remaining General Education courses (21 hours) with at least a "D".  
    • RN-BSN/MSN GPA and course prerequisite requirements
      • Minimum GPA of 3.0.
      • All UCA BSN non-nursing courses successfully completed (72 hours).
      • Students admitted to the RN to BSN/MSN program will submit a completed application to the UCA Graduate School approximately 4 months prior to taking the first graduate course (usually the second or  third semester of enrollment).
  • If not currently a UCA student, submit an Undergraduate application online to UCA.
  • The Arkansas Nursing Articulation Model permits RNs who meet the following criteria  to receive 41 credit hours for core nursing courses by articulation (without testing).  The credit is held in "escrow" until after the student has successfully completed all UCA BSN degree requirements.
    • 0 to 12 Months after Graduation:
      • Graduate of an NLN/NLNAC accredited or an ASBN approved program.
      • No work experience required.
    • 12 or more Months after Graduation:
      • Graduate of an NLN/NLNAC accredited or an ASBN approved program.
      • At least 1000 hours of nursing employment during the past 12 months.  (Submit Verification of Clinical Practice form)
    • Graduates of non-NLNAC accredited or non-ASBN programs are handled on an individual basis.
  • Submit hard-copy (paper) transcripts of any courses not  taken at UCA directly  to the Department of Nursing.
  • Complete and/or obtain the following documents to submit with your application:
    • A one-page typed (double-spaced) narrative addressing your future professional goals and how your studies at UCA will help you fulfill these goals.
    • A resume summarizing your educational, work, and professional experience.
    • A Work Reference form completed by an individual who has direct clinical supervision over you
    • A Verification of Clinical Practice form for each agency required to document clinical employment, if required by articulation criteria described above
    • A Criminal Background Check verification form
  • Read through and acknowledge you understand the following document:
    • Substance Abuse Policy
  • Submit the RN-to-BSN or RN-to-BSN/MSN application and all supporting documents to the Department of Nursing:
    • For fall admission: between February 15 and April 1
    • For spring admission: between June 15 and August 1
    • Applications will only be accepted during these time frames
