ABOUT
OUR PURPOSE...
Our mission is to help women gain the skills needed to be
successful whether that is as a productive member of the work force, a provider
for her family, an active member of her community , or all of the above.
We will help prepare our members for the issues facing today's women by
concentrating on ethical decision-making, social skills, leadership skills, and
self-awareness. We will help increase understanding of the ever-changing
world around us so that each member may "take her place in life with
true dignity and poise."
ABOUT LEADERSHIP...
Alpha Sigma Tau members have an opportunity to develop leadership skills
through cooperative work with other sisters. National events, such as
National Convention, Officer Academy and Regional Leadership Workshops allow our
members to participate in leadership learning activities led by professionals in
many fields.
Alpha Sigma Tau sponsors
the NPC Leadership Award, which recognizes excellence among members of ALL 26
national sororities.
ABOUT SCHOLARSHIP...
Alpha Sigma Tau sets academic standards higher than many other sororities,
requiring members to maintain at least a 2.3 academic average. Locally, we
have won multiple awards for overall highest GPA for the NPC sororities.
Awards are given to collegiate chapters and individual members who demonstrate
academic excellence. Our sisters support each other in their
studies.
Numerous scholarship are
available for undergraduate and graduate students through the Alpha Sigma Tau
National Foundation.
ABOUT SERVICE...
Since 1945, Alpha Sigma Tau has supported Pine Mountain Settlement School, located in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains. Pine Mountain provides educational, vocational and social programs to area residents. Education in environmental issues and special programs in the arts are available to more than 4000 people each year. Pine Mountain serves as a model for economically challenged areas. They have built a sense of community and helped residents learn to help themselves and each other. To learn about local projects click at the top of the page on the subtitle Philanthropy.
BEING ANCHORED FOR LIFE...
Alpha Sigma Tau has more than 100 collegiate and alumnae chapters. There are many opportunities for our alumnae to meet sisters from other campuses. alumnae chapters provide the opportunity to continue to experience the sisterhood bond after college. As an alumna volunteer, you can travel, meet other sisters, gain leadership experience, and give back to Alpha Sigma Tau by serving as a mentor to others.
