Current Research:
-
Treatment of
Dysphagia Using the Mendelsohn Maneuver. This is an R03 project
funded by NIH/NIDCD to investigate the physiologic changes in
swallowing function post-stroke using the Mendelsohn maneuver in
conjunction with surface EMG.
-
Real-Time
Internet Evaluation of Swallowing. This is an R01 project funded
by NIH/NIDCD to investigate the utility of long-distance,
real-time internet evaluation of swallowing function. This is a
joint investigation with The University of Illinois,

Treatment of
Language and Memory in Patients with Alzheimer’s Disease. This is
a pilot research study funded by the Memory Research Center at
UAMS to investigate spaced retrieval training for memory in
patients with Alzheimer’s disease. Dr. Kim McCullough is PI on
this project.
-
Temporal
measures of swallowing function in normal adults and patients
post-stroke. These data are being analyzed in conjunction with
Dr. Youngsun Kim at The University of Ohio.

|
Future Research:
-
Measures of
change in hyolaryngeal function and upper esophageal sphincter
opening in normal adults and patients post-stroke.
-
Functional,
long-term outcomes of patients post-stroke or head-and-neck cancer
when evaluated using telemedicine.
-
Examination
of P50 responses and the use of modafinil in patients with right
