Current Research:
-
Psychosocial
issues of children and adults who stutter. More specifically, the
self view and self-esteem of children who stutter (ages 4-7) is
currently being investigated as a part of an NIH-NIDCD grant
supported by the Stuttering Research Program at the University of
Illinois.
-
Clinical
training in the area of early childhood stuttering. This line of
research is part of a USDE grant proposal focusing on personnel
preparation and training.
-
The effect
of divided attention on speech production. Recently completed a
funded pilot study examining how speech fluency is affected under
conditions of divided attention. Participants were normal
speakers across the adult lifespan, as well as persons with mild
cognitive impairment or Alzheimer’s disease. Recently submitted
an R03 proposal to the NIH (NIDCD) [Dr. Richard Zriack,
co-investigator] to pursue this line of research on a larger
scale.
-
The relation
between stuttering and disordered phonology in young children who
stutter.
|
|
Future Research:
-
Persistency
in and recovery from stuttering and the risk factors involved
-
The role of
parent-child interaction in therapy for children who stutter
-
Disfluency
characteristics of individuals with Down syndrome and the clinical
implications involved.
