Meeting Minutes

September 27, 2007

 I.                   Induction Ceremony

a.      October 11 @ 6 PM in Thompson Room 206.

b.     Friends and family are encouraged to attend.  Please sign-up and signify if you are bringing guests.  New members are required to attend, and old members are strongly encouraged. Members who were unable to attend the meeting e-mail Ginny at the LPH yahoo account about reservations.

c.      There will food and refreshments served following the ceremony.

d.     Dress is business casual and please arrive on time.

e.      Key note speaker will be the Dean of Undergraduate Studies, Dr. Sally Roden.

II.                 Finances (Justin Rusinowski, Treasurer)

a.      See Financial Statement.

III.              Philanthropies for 2007-2008

a.      Boys and Girls Club- Saturday, November 10

                                                              i.      Volunteers needed to help build/paint new room to allow the teenagers and children their own respective place.

b.     CAPCA – Community Action Program of Central Arkansas

                                                              i.      Volunteers needed to work in the food bank. 

                                                            ii.      Hours of operation: Monday through Friday 8-5, excluding lunch from 12-1. 

                                                          iii.      Take your voucher and have it signed then bring it back for you points.

c.      Trick or Treat for UNICEF

                                                              i.      Takes place on Halloween to benefit children around the world.

                                                            ii.      Participants will Trick or Treat from participating class to class (our department only) on Halloween day offering candy to students who donate, with all proceeds going to UNICEF.  Separate individual change collecting will take place the week prior to and after Halloween. 

                                                          iii.      We will hand out boxes at the next meeting (October 11).

IV.             Fazoli’s Group Night Fundraiser

                                                              i.      Going to take place on Thursday, November 1.  Group carries out food and breadsticks to tables.  We publicize the event beforehand and hand out flyers with coupons, and for every coupon someone hands in, Fazoli’s gives us a dollar.  We also get any tips, and we are allowed to decorate the tables and put tip jars on them.  Usually from 5-8 PM.

V.                Bake Sales

a.     We made $76.19 from our last bake sale!!!  WAY TO GO!

b.     Next bake sale: Wednesday, October 24 from 8 AM-12 PM.

c.      Baked goods must be brought to Dr. Bedner’s office (204C) X-Period on Tuesday, October 23.  They must be:

                                                              i.      Individually wrapped.

                                                            ii.      Presentably packaged.

d.    Workers are needed to work at the table and collect money.  Please e-mail Ginny if you haven’t signed up but would like to bake and/or work the table.

e.      This is Homecoming week, so lets show our support the BEARS!  Workers: Wear a UCA Shirt (preferably your spiffy new LPH shirts); Bakers: try to incorporate UCA (purple and gray) into your baked good! This can be literally (like purple cookies) or by using purple and gray ribbon. 

VI.             Alumni Newsletter

a.      Articles will be accepted by members for inclusion in semi-annual newsletter.

b.     Feel free to suggest a topic of you choice.  Potential areas include philanthropies (reflections on your participation), fundraising (fun success stories, bake sale tales), “Where They Are Now” spot highlighting an alumni, etc.

c.      See Ginny for details on writing for the newsletter.

VII.           Graduate School Panel Discussion.

a.      November 29 @ x-period.  Confirmed participants include:  Drs. Chen, McIntyre and Bedner.

VIII.        Next Meeting:

a.     October 11, x-period in room 206. 

b.    Induction ceremony to follow that evening.
