I.                   Officer Introduction

II.                 Goals of Mu Theta Chapter

a.      Carry out nationally recognized goals of Lambda Pi Eta.

b.     Foster communication within our department and across our campus.

c.      Establish greater presence within our department and on our campus.

d.     Take part in preparing our majors for graduate education and scholarly endeavors.

 

III.              Recap of 2006-2007

a.      Fall & Spring Inductions

                                                              i.      15 new members inducted.

b.     Philanthropy

                                                              i.      Trick or Treat for UNICEF

1.     $67.93

c.      Fundraising

                                                              i.      Bake Sales

1.     ~$150.00 raised from three bake sales.

d.     NCA Convention in San Antonio

                                                              i.      Chapter-of-the-Year 2006.

                                                            ii.      Officer participated in an Ethics Panel Presentation.


 

 

IV.             Membership

a.      13 Current Members.

b.     15 Communication majors meet criteria to join LPH.

c.      New member dues of $40.00 must be given to Dr. Bedner in person by Thursday, September 27th.  Please ensure you get a receipt.

d.     The induction ceremony will be Thursday, October 11 at 6 p.m. and all members are expected to attend.  Friends and family are welcomed to attend as well.

 

V.                Point System (Ginny Moss, Vice President)

a.      See website for breakdown.

b.     20 Points are required to receive your honors cord for graduation.

 

VI.             Philanthropies for 2007-2008

a.      Boys and Girls Club

                                                              i.      Volunteers needed to help build/paint new room to allow the teenagers and children their own respective place.

b.     CAPCA – Community Action Program of Central Arkansas

                                                              i.      Volunteers needed to work in the food bank. 

                                                            ii.      Hours of operation: Monday through Friday 8-5, excluding lunch from 12-1. 

                                                          iii.      See an officer for more info.

c.      Trick or Treat for UNICEF

                                                              i.      Takes place on Halloween to benefit children around the world.

                                                            ii.      Participants will Trick or Treat from participating class to class (our department only) on Halloween day, with all proceeds going to UNICEF.  Separate change collecting will take place the week prior and after Halloween. 

                                                          iii.      More details to come.

 

VII.           Fundraising for 2007-2008

a.      Book sales

                                                              i.      Raised $150.00 this summer selling books donated by Dr. Bedner.

b.     Fazoli’s

                                                              i.      Group carries out orders and breadstick basket; tips jars on table go 100% to us.  We also get a dollar for every coupon the customer brings in from the flyers we put out.

 

c.      Bake Sales

                                                              i.      When:  Wednesday, September 19 from 8 AM-12 PM (or until we run out).

                                                            ii.      Baked goods must be brought to Dr. Bedner’s office (204C) X-Period on Tuesday, September 18.  They must be:

1.     Individually wrapped.

2.     Presentably packaged.

                                                          iii.      Workers are needed to work at the table and collect money.  Please sign up to bake and/or work the table.

 

 

VIII.        93rd Annual National Communication Association Convention

a.      When: Thursday, November 15th- Sunday, November 18th, 2007.

b.     Where: Chicago, IL

c.      From NatCom.org:

                                                              i.      This year’s theme, Communicating Worldviews: Faith-Intellect-Ethics, encourages participants to examine communication within the discipline, society or world through a literal, metaphorical, or virtual lens.

d.     Dr. Bedner, John, Ginny, and Justin will be attending.  Other members are invited to attend.  Costs include: NCA membership, conference registration, travel, accommodations, food and spending money.

 

IX.              Fall 2007 Goals and Endeavors

a.      Create first Alumni Newsletter.

                                                              i.      Articles will be accepted by members for inclusion in semi-annual newsletter.

                                                            ii.      Volunteer to write a “Where are they Now” Article featuring an Alumni in their current habitat.

                                                          iii.      See Ginny for details on writing for the newsletter.

b.     Each member participates in at least two philanthropies and one fundraiser (aside from Bake Sales).

c.      Bring in a Guest Speaker.

                                                              i.      Ideas?  Topics?

d.     Hold Graduate School Panel Discussion.

                                                              i.      Tentatively November 29 @ x-period.

e.      PRSSA Meet N’ Greet with Faculty, September 18th? Yes!

f.       Apply for and WIN Chapter-of-the-Year for the Second Year in a row!  J

 

X.                T-shirts

a.      See Attachment.

b.     Cost is $15 dollars each.

c.      Please sign up; Money is due by September 27th, 2007.

 

XI.              Next Meeting:

a.      September 27, x-period in room 206. 

b.     New member dues and T-Shirt Orders due.
