P.R.I.S.M. serves the GLBTQQA (gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered,
queer, questioning, and allied) community of UCA including students,
faculty, staff, and alumni. P.R.I.S.M. stands for Pride, Raising
awareness, Involvement, Support, and Mentoring. It was formed in 1997
and has steadily grown to be an influential organization in motivating
the student body to open themselves up to diversity, especially diverse
sexual and gender-related orientations. The alliance also works to
promote awareness, tolerance, equality and understanding, and to
dispense GLBTQQA-related information campus-wide. In addition, it
strives to offer support services for GLBTQQA students.
The organization currently serves three major functions: support for
students who are dealing with GLBTQQA issues, organization of
educational programs on campus, and provision of a social outlet for
members. The alliance also works with other GLBTQQA organizations
around the state, particularly in Central Arkansas. P.R.I.S.M. has
hosted panel discussions discussing such topics as homophobia and has
organized residence hall programs to discuss their feelings about
homosexuality, bisexuality, and transgendered issues.
