ImageJ is a Java-based public domain program that contains basic image processing tools, and includes numerous tools that facilitate quantitative measurements. This program was ‘inspired’ by a program named NIH-Image, which was originally developed at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to facilitate such tasks as recording quantitative measurements from the radiographs produced from gel electrophoresis.
