Participants may begin the course once they have registered for the institute and have been accepted into UCA's Graduate School as a non-degree seeking student. Participants are strongly encouraged to attend the 2010 SCBEA Convention and 2010 Education & Business Summit to participate in the onsite component of the course.

Institute Description:
The University of Central Arkansas Insurance Education Institute is a professional development opportunity and graduate course designed for educators, grades 8-12, to become more effective in teaching insurance by providing the tools necessary for understanding all forms of insurance. The Institute focuses on the relevance of insurance to middle and high school students and their families. The Griffith Insurance Education Foundation, located in Columbus, Ohio, is a nonprofit charitable organization whose goal is to improve the understanding of insurance and its role in society through the education of teachers and students.
Graduate Credit Awarded by the University of Central Arkansas at NO Cost to participants. Participants will have the opportunity to receive industry certification upon successful completion of the course.

Eligibility:
Applicants must be teachers in grades 8-12 who are willing to integrate topics on insurance into courses leading to a high school diploma such as career orientation, business, consumer education, economics, social sciences, family and consumer science, mathematics, or driver's education.
Transcripts:
Students will be able to request an official transcript from the University of Central Arkansas 30 days after grades have been submitted to the Registrar's Office. Click here for more information.

Cost:
This institute is GRANT FUNDED! The Insurance Education Foundation funds the cost of graduate credit, textbooks and all classroom materials for those who are selected to attend the Institute. These scholarships are paid directly to the institutes by the Griffith Insurance Education Foundation through the generosity of the insurance industry. Three hours of graduate credit are available at no cost to you upon successful completion of the institute.
Participants are responsible for their own transportation and lodging in South Carolina. The South Carolina Insurance Institute is also made possible with support from the South Carolina Department of Education.
Graduate School Information:
All participants must apply to the University of Central Arkansas Graduate School for "spring 2010" as a "part-time, non-degree seeking student" and pay the $25 application fee. The application process must be completed to gain access to the online course content and to receive graduate credit. Apply to the graduate school online at www.uca.edu/graduateschool/admission_process.
Important Dates:
- Register and complete all application requirements before February 26, 2010
- Complete all online coursework before June 27, 2010
