Academic Planning

Concept & Purpose

The Academic Planning process is an integral part of UCA's Strategic Thinking Initiative (STI), one of the necessary next--and ongoing--steps following adoption by the university of its Strategic Framework in August 2004. The Framework is linked here (PDF). See the STI web site for the processes that have led to this point; see the Planning Pyramid (PDF) for the place of the Academic Plan as one of the basic building blocks for implementing the Framework.

The Academic Plan is intended to be a map of and blueprint for UCA's academic division, and will ultimately comprise guidelines for allocation of resources and mechanisms for initiating change.

Timeline - Initial & Ongoing

• Departmental, College, and Other Unit Plans to Provost: February 15, 2005
• Analysis, Collation, Initial Budget Implications: May 2005
• Policy Analysis, Development Plan, Implementation: August 2005 and on-going

Forms

Forms have been developed to assist departments and other units in preparing academic plans. Their somewhat rigidly prescriptive format will ensure that the many plans developed across the university will be amenable to collation and side-by-side analysis.
