Psychology and Counseling

Advising Tips

  • If you have not already done so, take PSYC 1300 General Psychology during your first semester at UCA.
  • Do not put off taking PSYC 2330 Statistics. It is a prerequisite for several other psychology courses.
  • PSYC 4340 History & Systems is designed as a capstone course to be taken during the semester that you will complete all course requirements for the major.
  • If you intend to enter graduate school in an applied area such as clinical psychology, counseling, or school psychology, you should take elective courses that are often prerequisites for these graduate programs (Abnormal Psychology, Theories of Personality, Tests & Measurement)
  • You can obtain either a Bachelor of Arts (BA) or a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in psychology. The BA requires completion of a 2300 language course and usually requires that you take one or two lower level language courses in preparation for 2300. The BS requires completion of two math or lab science courses beyond the course that you intend to use for your General Education requirement. Both courses must be from the same department.
  • During your last semester, you must apply for graduation. The deadline for fall is in September, the deadline for spring is in February, and the deadline for summer is in June. The forms can be obtained from the Registrar's office in McCastlain Hall.
  • Join the Psychology Club.
  • Apply for membership in the Psi Chi National Honor Society (if you qualify).
  • Meet with your advisor during times other than Advance Registration to discuss career issues.
