Reynolds Performance Center - House Rules

These policies are in effect when any group rents or a University of Central Arkansas academic department uses Reynolds Performance Hall (RPH) for an event:

If your group requires security backstage, please notify the building manager at once.

For any emergency, dial 911 (Conway Police Department), or you may dial the UCA Police Department at 450-3111.

Alcohol or use of controlled substances or handguns are not allowed on the UCA campus.

Reynolds Performance Hall (hereinafter called RPH) is a smoke-free environment. Please use the area outside and adjacent to the Loading Dock to smoke. The new rule on the UCA campus is that no one shall smoke within 25 feet of a building.

Anytime you come into the building, you must check in with the Technical Director in his office. The Technical Director’s office is the Tech Booth just at the rear of the orchestra seating bank, inside the theater. If you need to be in the backstage area, if only for a moment, you must check in with the Technical Director. You may want to call first to see if he/she is in the building: (501) 852-3644.

All uses of the building, including specific rehearsal times, must be scheduled in advance with the Building Manager and Technical Director. All usage shall occur between the hours of 8 am and 12 midnight.

All backstage personnel, including both technical and artists, should enter the building through either the Stage Door (west side, three steps with handrails) or the Loading Dock door (south side).

The RPH backstage includes a loading dock area, a rehearsal room, a green room with microwave and refrigerator, a star dressing room, a common makeup room, with attached men’s and women’s locker/toilets/showers areas, and a laundry room.

There is no phone in the building for public use.

For backstage handicapped access, use the southeast entry to backstage, the next door down from the loading dock on the back wall of the complex. Handicapped access into the lobbies is through double doors facing the west parking lot, directly across from the handicapped parking spaces. Please notify the RPH staff in advance, as these doors enter into a lobby hallway and are normally locked. Call 450-3265 or 450-3682.

Please do not enter the backstage area through the lobby or through the auditorium. The lobbies are rented out for different conferences and receptions. Please avoid them if at all possible. Use the hallway to backstage on the east side of the lobby (left side of lobby facing the stage.

Please do not jump up onto stage from the auditorium. The apron cover is sheetrock is may be damaged by shoes.

No food or drink is allowed in the auditorium at any time. If you need liquids, please use capped squeeze bottles. Open cup containers are not acceptable. Canned drinks are not acceptable.

Instrument cases, personal bags, backpacks, purses, books, etc., should be left in a backstage space out of trafficways. Items left in the stage wings can become serious hazards on a darkened stage.

If you leave items in lockers, you must provide your own lock. RPH is not responsible for anything left overnight. Items left in locker with locks in place will be removed after one week of your final usage date. Contact UCA Police for lost items, 450-3111.

You may use the appliances in the Green Room, but please do not touch any foodstuffs that are not yours. Please clean up after yourself or your group may be accessed a cleaning fee at the end of your usage.

If children and/or animals or both are incorporated into a performance event, they must be chaperoned and supervised by an adult at all times. These adults must be provided by the renting group.

Usage of the sound system in the rehearsal room is by advance approval only, as are the star dressing room an d the laundry room, and both pianos.

There are things that may occur that the RPH staff may feel are inappropriate. We reserve the right to state that a group or individual did not follow the “common sense” policy. At that time, we will then react to the situation. If there is a question about something, common sense says “don’t do it unless you get approval first.” This is what we call a “common sense” policy.

ONSTAGE RULES

SAFETY is our greatest concern, and we will do whatever is necessary to ensure the safety of all users of the building

Check with the TD before beginning any stage set up. If he is not there, stop. Call (501) 852-3644 or (501) 450-3682.

Do not do any technical work without the specific approval of the TD. All technical applications and usage of any and all theatrical stage equipment is by strict approval of the RPH Technical Director (TD) and/or RPH Manager. Do not begin work onstage without discussing specifics with the TD.

Reynolds Performance Hall was built primarily as a professional touring house, so there is no area for building scenery. Nor are their tools available. Any work with power tools, including sawing, sanding or grinding, must be done outside of the building. If onstage painting touchups are necessary, a drop cloth must be used. Do not use spray paints or any kind of sprayable liquids inside the building. Do not use spray paints outside the building without using a drop cloth, even on a sidewalk or on the grass or in a parking area.

Painting or glazing of the stage floor is strictly prohibited.

Use of glitter or other fine particle material, including sand or seeds, anywhere in the building must be discussed and approved in advance with the TD.

No nailing or screwing into the stage floor is allowed without specific permission of the Technical Director.

No scenery or lighting items may be placed less than one foot downstage or upstage of flying soft goods, such as act curtains, legs, scrims, cyclorama, etc. Ask the TD.

RPH owns a full stage Harlequin dance floor. Usage is by permission and requires a fee payment. If the dance floor is used, no scenery or scenic or furniture pieces may be placed on the dance floor without prior consent of the TD. The Harlequin dance floor does not cover the orchestra pit area. No one may cut, bend or fold this dance floor.

The Technical Director will set stage lighting to be used for rehearsals.

Company electrical switches are located downstage left in RPH. Under no circumstances will anyone other than RPH personnel or a member of UCA Physical Plant attempt to connect or disconnect to or from these switches. NO EXCEPTIONS – this is a very high voltage area and extremely dangerous.

No one is to be in the catwalks or the fly lofts during your groups use of the building, without specific permission and supervision of the RPH technical staff.

Hanging of lighting instruments must be supervised by RPH technical staff or their designee. Some instruments may not be functioning or have burned out lamps, so please do not plot the complete RPH lighting inventory. Re-lamping or converting lamps of existing inventory is strictly prohibited.

Use of RPH sound system is by prior approval of the RPH staff.

Reynolds Performance Hall generally does not provide design services, except if requested well in advance and negotiated in the usage application.

Academic Departments who use Reynolds Performance Hall must operate under the same guidelines and House Rules, as noted above.

All wings and other access paths shall be kept clean and clear of furniture and other stored materials.

No equipment of materials may block auditorium house aisles or any public egress lanes in the building, including onstage wings and backstage hallways or doorways.

The Technical Director shall shut down all technical systems, shall make sure that all personnel are out of the building, and shall check all doors in the backstage area before exiting the building at the end of the work period or at the end of the day.

All use of the House, stage, and/or the Lobbies shall be supervised by the Building Manager.

If there are questions, please ask. We will be happy to work with you to ensure that both our work and your work is safe and well supervised by qualified personnel. Enjoy and protect the Reynolds Performance Hall.
