UCA Chapter

General Overview

The National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA) is a national organization for students interested in the study of communication for students interested in the study of communication sciences and disorders. The UCA NSSLHA Chapter is the local chapter which is recognized under the guidelines of the National Speech Language Hearing Association. The UCA Speech Pathology Department has had an active local chapter conference on communication disorders and other related issues since 1983.

UCA NSSLHA is a registered student organization of UCA, committed to fulfilling the following purposes:

  1. encouraging professional interest among college and university students in the study of normal and disordered human communication behavior,
  2. providing continuity to the dissemination of professional information, and
  3. providing a vehicle for student representation in matters of professional concern.

The chapter holds two meetings per month with one being a program meeting and the other being a business meeting.

The benefits of membership include:

  • Students get to know other UCA students;
  • Students can participate in socials;
  • Students pay a reduced registration fee for the Annual Spring Conference
  • Students have the opportunity to participate in community service projects;
  • Students can apply for book scholarships and travel stipends funded by the UCA NSSLHA Chapter;
  • Students are eligible for UCA NSSLHA drawings. This includes door prizes at business and program meetings and funding for the ArkSHA convention.
