Audition Day

February 20, 2010

If you're a high school senior (graduating in May, 2010) or a transfer student thinking about majoring in Theatre, here's your chance to audition for scholarship money offered by most universities in Arkansas.

UCA Theatre will once again host the annual High School Audition Day on Saturday, February 20, 2010. The theatre faculty from all colleges and universities in the state are invited to come together for a combined audition day. Any high school senior or college transfer student interested in majoring in theatre will have the opportunity to audition for scholarships and talk one-on-one with theatre faculty & representatives from numerous colleges across the state.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS NOT AN AUDITION FOR CASTING. IT IS AN AUDITION FOR SCHOLARSHIPS ONLY.

Here's what you need to do to register!

1) Fill out a registration form and return it by February 15, 2010. (see below for form.) Registration is free. Your registration form must be postmarked by February 15 to secure your audition spot. Do not mail or fax your registration form after February 15. On-site registration will begin at 10:30 am on February 20. Those registering on February 20 will be allowed to audition on a first-come, first-served basis and only if time allows. Pre-registration is highly encouraged.

2) Prepare a 60-second monologue of your choice. Please choose a monologue that best demonstrates your abilities. Please choose a monologue from a play, not a movie or film. Also, please choose a MONOLOGUE, with one person only. Do not attempt to play more than one character in a scene. Your audition will be timed. You will be asked to stop if you exceed the time limit.

3) If you wish to sing, prepare an additional 30 seconds of singing, for a total of 90 seconds for the entire audition. You must provide your own taped/CD accompaniment. You must also bring your own battery-operated tape/CD player. No piano will be provided. You may also sing a cappella.

4) Design/Technical Theatre Students - Please bring a design portfolio, artwork, or other similar materials. Design/Technical students do not need to prepare a monologue. However, you are welcome to do so. If you are performing a monologue, please let us know when you check in.

One-on-one interviews with the faculty from the colleges attending will begin immediately following the audition process. You will be able to visit with as many colleges as you wish. Colleges will also post a list of students they would like to speak with.

Do not attach a resume to your registration form. Colleges will receive copies of your registration form only. However, you may pass out your resume to the individual college representatives during your one-on-one interview.

The audition process itself will probably be finished by 12:30. The interview sessions will begin around this time. The amount of time you spend here will be determined by how many colleges you wish to visit and how many other students are in line ahead of you. Most of the interview sessions are over by 3:30 pm.

Parents are welcome to attend the interview sessions, however, parents/teachers/advisors will not be allowed to view the auditions.
