Things you should know to help your student:

Before your student can begin taking classes at UCA, you must provide proof of immunization for measles and rubella.

It is also a good idea to send a basic First Aid Kit and an inexpensive digital oral thermometer with your son or daughter. Also, send copies of medical insurance cards with them and educate them about what pharmacies are preferred and prescription co-pays your plan has. If you do not have any medical insurance, please let your son or daughter know, so they can inform us. The UCA student health clinic will try to use generic prescription medications and free drug samples if possible.

Consult with your family health care provider about whether your son or daughter should have the meningitis vaccine. It is recommended by the American College Health Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics for all college freshmen living in college housing. We have the immunization available at the student health clinic. The cost is $75 currently, but may go up as our cost increases.

We provide ambulatory health care for all UCA students at the health clinic found in the basement of Bernard Hall. The hours are 8-12 and 1-4:15, M-F. There are two Nurse Practitioners with prescriptive authority on staff, supported by Registered Nurses, a Licensed Practical Nurses, a Nursing Assistant and clerical staff. A local Family Practice Physician is the collaborative physician for the clinic. For a listing of services, please visit the web site at www.uca.edu/divisions/student/studenthealth/

It is most important for parents to know that the student health services staff will not be able to discuss students’ medical care without the consent of the student. Please discuss this with your son or daughter before he or she comes to UCA. A signed consent by the student will allow us to discuss their care with you.
