There are other options available for your second year student, including the Sophomore Year Experience Program

The Sophomore Year Experience is designed to meet the needs of second year students by creating programs that deal directly with the issues they are currently facing, including:  Building Leadership skills, Deciding a Major, Creating a Community, Civic Participation, and Building Life Skills.

SYE MISSION STATEMENT : The mission of the Sophomore Year Experience Program is to develop student leaders who are guided by the character values of respect, justice, service, honesty, and community, and to assist second-year students with enhancing their educational goals by engaging in academically oriented activities outside the classroom.

UCA Housing and Residence Life & Under Graduate Studies recognize that sophomores can and want to make a difference. The Sophomore Experience Program will provide programs specifically designed to prepare sophomores to be leaders and active members of their community in Stadium Park and campus wide.

Goals of the program include:

  • Facilitating student-student academic and social interaction
  • Creating student-faculty academic and social interaction
  • Discussing racial/ethnic issues with other students
  • Increasing hours spent on studying
  • Encouraging students to socialize with diverse groups
  • Completing the general education core
  • Determining an academic and career path
  • Valuing altruism and social activism

Programming May include:

  • Fun Student Lead Initiatives such as games, camping and canoe trips, and talent shows.
  • Back to College Socials to reconnect with old friends and make new ones in the fall.
  • Sophomore Orientation to learn how to select and change a major, and the requirements to succeed.
  • Career Resources for exploring different majors and building a winning resume.
  • Diversity Programming to gain a better understanding of others and our world!
  • The Chance to Meet Faculty and Staff in a Social Setting:  dinners and picnics.
  • Community Service Opportunities such as Spring Break Habitat for Humanity, canned food drives, care for animals in the Faulkner County Shelter.
  • Dynamic Speakers and Presentations.
  • Study Abroad Service Learning Course in Belize.
