Biography:
The Facts:  I earned my PhD in English from Purdue University in 1999 with a specialization is in Theoretical Linguistics and a secondary area in Rhetoric and Composition.  I teach a myriad of courses including Semantics, Sociolinguistics, Linguistics for Educators, Introduction to Linguistics, World Languages, Composition I and II, and the new course, Teaching Writing in the Mid-level Grades.  I have written numerous reviews for Language and The Linguist List since I spend a lot of time reading books for my classes.  I have published several book chapters, written the entry on Dakota and Siouan Languages in the Encyclopedia of Linguistics and appeared in several conference proceedings.  My current work focuses on morphological errors produced in testing situations, and I am collaborating on a book on linguistics and education with a colleague, Dr. Gladys Scott.  I serve on numerous committees on campus including the Undergraduate Council, the Faculty Grievance Council, the Linguistics Minor, the African/African-American Studies Minor, the department’s Assessment Committee and the Information Committee.

The Interesting Stuff:  I like to travel and have seen the Eiffel Tower, the Tower of London, and the Leaning Tower of Pisa.  I’ve seen the Trevi Fountain, Pompeii, and the Louvre.  I’ve skied both the French and Swiss Alps, hiked the German and Dutch countrysides, and walked the city wall around Dubrovnik, Croatia.  I’ve eaten the best calamari in Ia, Greece, the best gyro in Athens, the best pizza in (of all places) Villefrance, France, the best mussels in Brussels, the best gelato in Rome, and the best tapas in Barcelona.  I’ve sunned, snorkeled and/or scuba dove in Aruba, Grand Cayman, St. Maarten, Cancun, St. Thomas, and Puerto Rico.  Closer to home, I have skied Tahoe, Utah and Colorado, sunned in Florida, and biked in Pennsylvania and Ohio.  In Arkansas, I often go hiking at Petit Jean, Mt. Magazine and Pinnacle.  I belong to the Conway Cross-stitch Club, Conway Regional Fitness Club and a local book club.
